Problem or Opportunity

Pigee offers a B2B mobile platform that enables brick-and-mortar merchants in tourist-heavy areas to increase sales by accepting mobile payments and integrating multiple delivery services for omnichannel shipping. The app addresses low conversion rates by alleviating tourists concerns about purchasing bulky or fragile items. Allowing physical retail spaces to operate like e-commerce platforms with minimal effort, and providing a reliable service for both merchants and their customers.

Solution (product or service)

Pigee partners with merchants to help tourists purchase products they can’t take home due to challenges like weight. Tourists download the Pigee app, which connects them to nearby Pigee-affiliated shops. They select a product, the merchant adds it to the app via a photo, and the purchase, including shipping, is completed. Pigee selects the cheapest delivery service, handles shipping logistics, and secures payment. Merchants receive payment once the item is collected, ensuring a safe transaction. This fosters trust and long-term relationships between tourists and merchants.

Business model

The Pigee business model combines marketplace fees, including transaction and FX fees, with a discounting mechanism that profits from negotiated shipping rates. Pigee earns a margin by acquiring discounted shipping and charging a rate just below what is publicly available to the customer. On average, Pigee profits $58 per transaction through this model. This approach leverages both service fees and shipping discounts to create a profitable, scalable revenue stream while providing value to both tourists and merchants.
