With one picture from a smartphone, EMPEQ’s revolutionary SaaS product uses computer vision to identify microelectronic parts and determine part authenticity.
Current Status
EMPEQ's commercial product has generated significant revenue from customers. Key customers and partners include Johnson Controls, The Government of Canada, and Siemens. EMPEQ experienced 550+% software as a service revenue growth in 2023 (700,000+ TTM revenue).
EMPEQ built the Instant Equipment Insights part detection augmentation with a Direct to Phase II SBIR based on partnership with the 48 Cyberspace Test Squadron (48 CTS). The 48 CTS has a national defense-related mission need in automating the detection of counterfeit electronic parts directly supporting Air Force cyber systems.
Problem or Opportunity
More than 30% of all integrated circuits in circulation today are counterfeit. Many of these components are introduced with the express purpose of clandestine sabotage of vital U.S. equipment and capabilities. The current landscape does not offer a single scalable solution to provide real-time information on suspect unapproved parts (SUPs). Relying on manual and non-scalable solutions has meant a dismal catch rate of ~1%. Ultimately, supply chains are being infiltrated by inferior / malicious parts and chip manufacturers suffer from unauthorized impersonations of their IP.
Solution (product or service)
EMPEQ's Instant Equipment Insights augments a previously commercialized artificial intelligence / computer vision software product to detect SUPs with one picture from a handheld device with 96+% accuracy. This is the first scalable solution to the problem and, because of the simplicity of the approach, requires very little training. For the first time users can instantly determine if a part is suspected of being counterfeit anywhere in the world and throughout the supply chain.
Business model
EMPEQ has decided on a Software-as-a-Service (SaaS) model for its commercial product. Price points are at $139 and $49/user/month depending on usage. There is a plethora of secondary revenue streams open to the company long-term including: data sales, marketing fees, contractor matching, maintenance/service scheduling, and facilitation of equipment/parts/appliance purchases
