Cookie Langs is a first-of-its-kind language learning platform that helps users attain conversational fluency through highly engaging Tiktok-style videos that use our AI speech recognition software.

Current Status

The product launched in Korea in 2019. In 2021, revenue was 500k USD. Through 2022, revenue is on track for $10M USD (20x growth). The app was awarded App of the Year by the Korean government (which helped the fuel the explosive growth in 2022). In addition, Cookie Langs was featured in the Forbes October 2022 edition.

Problem or Opportunity

Language learning solutions today are ineffective at doing the one thing people actually need: to know how to speak the language. Existing solutions are disengaging, expensive, ineffective, or all of the above. They focus on helping you recognize vocabulary words instead of becoming confident in being able to speak with people.

Solution (product or service)

Cookie Langs uses popular Hollywood movies to teach learners how to speak and pronounce the language correctly; the entertaining nature of it motivates users to engage with it on average 3 hrs/day (compared to Duolingo's average daily engagement time of only 18 minutes). Our next step is to build out a content creator platform so that native speakers of any language can teach their language in a conversational way and earn revenue for doing so. Our AI software detects when users pronounce words incorrectly and helps the build confidence to know that they are saying it right.

Business model

To date, our growth is from B2B customers in Korea. These companies use our service to teach their employees conversational and business English. The average contract value is ~100k USD and we have over 100 companies as of September 2022. Going forward, we will create a B2C platform for the global market which will work in tandem with our B2B strategy (many customers who use our product individually, for instance, recommend it to their institutions and companies for company training).
