By giving early warnings we can radically reduce the melanoma related fatalities, and more accurate diagnoses reduce the number of unnecessary operations, and thus reduce the corresponding costs.
Current Status
The Physician Console is used by the Dermatology Clinic of Semmelweis University.
There are a Hungarian and an international version of the app. The Hungarian version has ~100 users, the international version has ~200 users. We don't advertise the app.
Problem or Opportunity
A shortage of dermatologists causes long wait times and leads patients to seek dermatologic care from general practitioners; in Hungary, the checkup waiting list of MelanomaMobil (one of the private clinics in Hungary) increased from 2 days in 2016 to 30 days in 2019, while it takes roughly 1.5 months to get the diagnosis after the checkup. The diagnostic accuracy of general practitioners has been reported to be only 0.24-0.70 (compared to 0.77-0.96 for dermatologists), resulting in referral errors, delays in care, and errors in diagnosis and treatment.
Solution (product or service)
Emdee.ai’s teledermatology solution improves the diagnostic accuracy of clinicians, and gives early warnings to the patients. By giving early warnings we can radically reduce the melanoma fatalities, and more accurate diagnoses reduce the number of unnecessary operations, and reduce the corresponding costs.
The solution consists of a mobile application that is used by patients to assess their moles and submit the images to a private dermatology clinic, and a web-based Physician Console for the clinic to store and analyze further the images.
Business model
Physician console: license fee paid by private clinics.
Mobile apps for patients:
- subscription / usage fee
- private clinics pay for appointment booking (app used as a marketing tool)
