Idea

Honest & Rare is the online marketplace for specialty drinks - including beer, spirits, wine, coffee and soft drinks. We enable customers to find and buy non-mainstream high-quality drinks.

Current Status

We currently offer 3,000 drinks across all categories from 290 different marketplace sellers. We are growing ~150% versus last year and are going to make ~€300,000 in GMV this year.

Furthermore, we have raised €250,000 in May 2022 and are starting a new funding round soon.

Problem or Opportunity

There is a growing demand of high-quality specialty beverages rather than mainsteam mass products. People are looking for the special taste and product. This is observable across the whole beverage industry: beer, gin, wine, spirits, coffee and soft drinks.

This has led to an increase of beverage producers and products. However, most beverages are not accessible as they are hard to obtain due to the overwhelming cost power of big multinational corporations.

Solution (product or service)

We have created a two-sided marketplace where producers and merchants get online shop-in-shops, can market themselves and their products and thus gain reach and visibility in their target group.

Customers on the other hand can find and buy drinks they cannot get in their supermarket.

Competitors

There are online shops for drinks - mostly for spirits and wine.

There is no online marketplace for beverages. Furthermore, there is no solution to make visible and promote local producers from Germany, Europe and beyond.

This means, there is no product that due to its scalability allows to bring the diversity of the world's beverage landscape on one platform.

Advantages or differentiators

- There is no online marketplace yet that enables customers to buy rare specialty drinks from independent producers and sellers
- Our manufactuer-only positioning allows for a unique value proposition, branding and distinct content and entertainment
- Beverage suppliers need affordable online distribution channels incl. own online shops, while customers need convenient access to craft drinks
- The scalable marketplace model allows us to potentially cover tens of thousands of brands and products as well as newcomers

Business model

We are commission-based and earn money on every transaction that happens on our marketplace. In addition, we sell marketing boosts to our marketplace sellers through our reach channels (website, newsletter, social media, etc.). Ultimately, we also sell drink boxes to corporate customers for their employee events, celebrations or as employee gifts.
