Problem or Opportunity
Women often feel unworthy as well as empty and are twice as likely as men to fall into a depression. They look for support in meditation apps, but most mediation apps are actually not building a habit, with a retention of 5% only. Many women go in their lives through different mental health issues of which most are taboo to talk about. Think about menopause, miscarriage, post-natal depression, gender bias at work and many more. These common topics are not addressed by current meditation apps.
Solution (product or service)
Silatha empowers women through these difficult times by making their meditation habit stick with its unique anchor meditation method, approved by BJ Fogg, world’s leading expert in habit building. While focussing on the specific topics that women face, like pregnancy, post-natal depression, inequality at work or menopause, to name a few. Silatha also connects the women that are going through the same phase on the app. She meditates on the topic and joins a community of like-minded women where she wants to belong and share experiences.
Calm: officially a meditation app, but they became more of a sleeping app. Their target focus is wide and they don't manage so far to build a meditation habit for their users. For them to add a physical object would mean to 1. Change their business plan and 2. Change all their meditations, basically start a new business. On top, having a physical item, isn’t practical for sleep meditations. Headspace: First meditation app, but they lost focus, they integrated sports, music and things like dog grooming, or origami. Their app became quite fussy and hard to navigate, because of that they are losing market share. Waking up: Sam Harris is known and has a very scientifical approach with his meditation app, mainly attracting a male audience and focussed on a target group that wants to go into the deep stages of meditation. With topics like awakening, they are not addressing the big mass. Insight Timer: meditation app with relatively a lot of free content, with that there is a lot of low quality audio and when through the clutter, you finally find a teacher that you like, the offer of that teacher is limited. There are other meditation apps, but none of them is creating a community and offering a method that really makes meditation stick. It’s unlikely for them to copy, because this would mean a total new business model and change of all meditations (as we link to the object in each meditations), also an app focussed on a wide audience, will not only focus on female topics as this would alienate male users.
