Idea

Kitovu builds climate-smart farming and post-harvest infrastructure to enable smallholder farmers to improve their productivity and incomes.

Current Status

Kitovu has:
1. Built and launched working prototypes in the market for YieldMax, StorageX, and Eprocure
2. Worked with over 16,000 smallholder farmers across 9 states of Nigeria
3. Trained over 300 field agents to sign farmers up to Kitovu, manage the technology, and provide agronomy advice.
4. Made more than $250,000 in revenue to date
5. Partnered with the International Fertilizer Development Center, AFEX Commodities Exchange, Technoserve, Standard Cassava Processors, and Foodbank Limited.

Problem or Opportunity

Smallholder farmers who typically grow 2–4-hectare farms realize low yields compared to global averages. Post-harvest, 40% of yields are lost due to poor storage, and lack of access to markets. This impacts farm-level productivity and farmer incomes.
These problems arise because farmers rely on guesswork, instinct, and traditional knowledge to make operational decisions, thereby planting at the wrong time, using the wrong inputs i.e., seedlings, fertilizer, and herbicides, and applying these at the wrong time.

Solution (product or service)

Kitovu builds climate-smart farm and post-harvest infrastructure that enables smallholder farmers personalized agronomic advisory, storage, and market access.
Our products include:
1. YieldMax, a digital platform that applies data science and remote sensing to provide smallholder farmers with a personalized agronomic advisory.
2. eProcure, a digital commodity supply service that enables processors and commodity buyers to source quality products.
3. StorageX, a platform that leverages Electronic Warehouse Receipts Technology to provide access to effective storage and access to finance.

Business model

Kitovu has 3 distinct product lines which we monetize as follows:
1. YieldMax, a B2C mobile app that provides users access to agronomic advisory while letting them purchase inputs YieldMax generates revenue through postpaid subscriptions of $12.5 per Ha.

2. StorageX, a B2C web platform that provides users access to postpaid storage. StorageX generates revenue through storage charges of $6/Ton.

3. eProcure, a B2B web platform that lets users order agricultural commodities. . eProcure generates revenue by placing a 13% margin on farm gate prices.
