We believe that everyone deserves access to a better quality of life despite their health problems. We do this by creating and developing tools to solve health problems applying creativity and innovation. We build medical devices for people with chronic kidney disease.
Current Status
We have developed a great research on the needs of patients, families and doctors to create the main characteristics of our project. The device is in a prototype state with simple technology and a body made from homemade materials that are evolving into a 3D printer body.
Market
Over 2.5 Million Patients with kidney replacement therapy worldwide. US$ 250M from patients in Mexico City, US$ 1 Billion in the whole country and US$ 21 Billion Worlwide.
Problem or Opportunity
More than 80% of Mexican patients can't afford renal therapy. Over 120K current patients in Mexico, expected 212K by 2025. Is the 10th cause of death in Mexico Public health system, patients keeps at home all day, every day. Over 800M patients and between 2.3 and 7.1 M deaths every year worldwide, mainly due to lack of access to treatment.
Solution (product or service)
The device developed will make the cost decrease by 70%, is semi-automatic peritoneal dialysis: uses manual dialysis principles (gravity) abd flow controllers that regulate the process, allowing treatment to be done overnight. Frees patient and families for daily activities improving life expectancy and life quality.
Competitors
Manual Peritoneal Dialysis ~$400 USD monthly.
Automated Peritoneal Dialysis $1K USD monthly with Baxter or PiSA.
Hemodialysis $1.5K - $4K USD monthly
Kidney transplant >$30K USD, needs a compatible donor.
Advantages or differentiators
The use of innovative technology makes the device cheaper and more accessible to low-income patients, allowing them to pay for their treatment and have fewer personal health concerns and not feel like a burden on their families.
Finance
System sales to patients and clinics: $2,500 USD/system
System rental to patients and clinics: $100 USD/month
Charge per hour of use to patients and clinics: $0.50 USD/hour
Business model
Kidney disease patients will be able to rent the device through our website and doctors' recommendations. Our organization will be the link so that families and doctors are always in contact with patients knowing their condition and needs. As the service and the device are cheaper compared to the competition, it allows us to enter the market and grow in a couple of years without being considered a threat since we serve another customer segment.
Money will be spent on
Development of the final product
Rental of the infrastructure to build a lot large enough for 200 patients
Upgrades for the website
Marketing for the device
maintenance of the products
Equipping a team to teach patients, doctors and families to use the devices
Research updates
Offer for investor
Open to negotiate from 1 to 15% or to discuss in order to obtain more agreements
The main risks are that our competition will be too aggressive with new technology and that doctors will be reluctant to recommend new technologies without having prior confidence in it. Innovative technology can also be difficult to teach to older generations.
