With the whole world struggling with the Corona Virus pandemic, It's currently evident to the world that a centralized health management systems that rely solely on people walking into a health facility to acquire the patient data are not sufficient.
Afya Rekod is a decentralized medical data storage platform that allows patients to store their health records, the medication they take as well as keep journals of their health statuses and that of their kids and families.

Afya Rekod platforms are working solution, we have an MVP which we are finalizing conversation with counties in Kenya to start using the platform. We are providing the platform and our support to the counties at no cost as part of our mission to be socially driven and impactful.

AfyaRekod platform is not a replacement of the current health systems that are used by various organisations; instead, we have democratized the health data collection process. The patient will be responsible for storing and managing their medical records.
The shift from organisations to individual users will expand our target market, virtually every person in the continent is a targeted patient for AfyaRekod, including the doctors. We have segmented our user into three broad categories
Active User: Patients suffering from various types of disease
Semi-Active User: Mothers, Pregnant women and health social health workers.
Passive Users: Everyone else.

Africa has limited doctors and limited access to health care services.
Lack of Patient's data in real-time makes the problem even more damaging to patients and health service providers across the continent. Over 65% of Africans lives in rural communities that are not connected or are off-grid in terms of health care service. Which means a central medical record solution doesn't work.
This is true in many sectors, and when it comes to health, there is both a lack of primary community health data on diseases and most importantly, patient data to save lives.
AfyaRekod is working to increase access to health data by decentralizing the data collection process, allowing users to update and keep a record of their health data.
The lack of health data has enormous adverse effects. Without health records, doctors can't serve patients properly, and patients can't get access to health care on time. Some of the effects include:
- Inefficiency that leads to untimely deaths
- Low-quality health care and access to health care services, i.e. HIV, Cancer etc
- Delayed response to outbreaks, and epidemics that kills millions in Africa, i.e. Ebola.
- Inability to manage and deal with changing and resistant virus, i.e. new strand of Malaria.
The Corona virus pandemic is giving us an opportunity to launch the platform for mass uptake globally at a time when individuals across the world are focusing on alert looking out for symptoms and information. And governments and health stakeholders are struggling with data on how many, where and what, when and how everything is happening.

The platform is AI-driven uses various AI modules to help detect abnormalities, detect early outbreaks and monitor mobility and evolution of diseases via timely data analytics.

Afya Rekod is built on blockchain technology which provides an added layer for our user's information.
Medical records for each user is stored as blockchain-based tokens, enabling trusted parties from the statutory, insurance, medical and regulatory compliance industries to attest to the authenticity of the token and it’s provenance.

Afyarekod has various revenue streams; for everyday users, we will not charge any fee for them to use the platform. Institutional users, i.e. doctors, NGO's, donors, and hospitals, will pay a market rate subscription fee to use the platform.
The viability of our business model lies in organisational partnerships.
Partners like pharmaceutical companies will be able to have their surveys conducted on the AfyaRekod platform. Some of the cost will be used to incentive patients to take part in the surveys increasing engagement on Afyarekod.
