In civil/defense, and automotive, markets a camera that “sees” in night, fog, rain, and bright light is the holy grail. Physics
limits successful accomplishment, but today's solutions often deployed are too expensive, don’t provide necessary performance
(resolution) and are too power hungry or heavy. In the defense, drones are on the front lines but cost effectively equipping them with
LWIR cameras has severely limited adoption and success. In automotive, pedestrian fatalities at night are up 76% in the last decade, the US
Government NHTSA just mandated stringent safety requirements.
Solution (product or service)
Owl AI’s KnightOwl® of purpose-built FPA (focal plane array) semiconductors and AI software offers the highest megapixel
resolution (HD), lowest power thermal imaging solution available to address the dual use market requirements in drones and vehicles. Known as SWaP-C for size, weight, power and cost, these are the critical parameters that must be addressed in drones, while resolution drives image fidelity. For automotive, Owl has been tested against NHTSA’s latest requirements, demonstrating far superior automatic braking performanc eunder nighttime operation than traditional PAEB systems.
Business model
For dual use, Owl works directly with the US Army’s Night Vision Labs the US
authority on night vision. Owl has strategic partnerships with key defense primes
providing our FPA’s for their night vision products. Within Auto, Owl is a Tier 2
supplier to ADAS with an emphasis on PAEB. For auto OEMs and Tier 1s, Owl
provides reference designs and sells a camera core that comprises: a custom
thermal sensor, optics, and an AI/ML 3D computer vision perception software.
