Idea

StoneFree is a prescribable mobile digital health app for kidney stone patients to decrease the risk of recurrence via habit change and biofeedback

Current Status

In the prototype validation, 100% of respondents said they would use the app, and doctors surveyed also showed a great willingness to prescribe the app. We are supported by the most famous kidney stone scientists as well as one of the largest kidney stone analysis centers.

Problem or Opportunity

5-9% of the European population are affected by kidney stones. The pain is comparable to giving birth. Kidney stones are a chronic disease, therefore patients are very scared of experiencing another kidney colic. Science knows the measures quite well, which reduce the risk of stones forming significantly, but doctors barely dispose any time for nutrition advices.

Solution (product or service)

We bridge this gap between science and the people with an mobile app that provides four features:
- A reminder to drink enough fluids, as hydration is the habit that has the greatest impact
- Food recommendations tailored to the individual patient by their stone type
- Psychoeducation with a 12-week program to help change habits and give patients the feeling of control over their condition - as well as -
- Biofeedback via urine testing that demonstrates that your measures are effective and therefore can aid in forming new habits.

Competitors

1. There are 45 DIGAs in GER yet, not none for kidney stones
2. There are multiple small apps available, like StoneMD
3. In medical reality mostly used are still printed flyers

Advantages or differentiators

The other small apps have all the same problem:
1. They are not certified medical products, there wont be use by medics officially in the treatment
2. They are no systematic plan to change the behavior
3. They have awkward user experience (especially Android)

The flyers are not digital therefore:
1. You don't have them with you always (e.g. in a restaurant)
2. They are not multilinguale, nor accessible
3. They have quite low compliance

Business model

StoneFree will be a DIGA after certification, which is a German model, where an app can be prescribed by a doctor without budgetary constraints and all costs are covered by the health insurance.

Money will be spent on

In descending order:
1. Legal requirements and certifications (including efficacy study)
2. Marketing (for urologists and patients)
3. App Development
4. Content Production

The majority of costs are by nature staff costs (internal and external), there wont be significant investment in any physical asset
