Problem or Opportunity
In Ghana and across many African countries, the lack of an effective ticketing system leaves a gap in road safety and traffic management. The current system of enforcing road traffic laws involves processing the offending driver to court before a fine is issued; and as an incentive for the offender to appear in court, their vehicle is impounded or their license seized. This is a great inconvenience, especially for minor offenses. As is often the case, they would rather pay bribes and be set free than be processed; therefore the offenses stand uncorrected, and our roads non safer.
Solution (product or service)
Our business offers a technology that when installed in a car, automatically detects major road traffic offenses and provides an e-ticketing system for processing and payment of fines. Other traffic offenses not detected automatically, are processed by a police officer using a mobile device and immediately, the driver is notified via SMS/App to pay using various e-payment options available. In an instance where a fine issued is not contested in court yet left unpaid within the stipulated time, a warning light is shown on the device to prompt the Police for further action.
Competitors
This is an innovation tailored to tackle the problem thus there is no direct competition. However, we anticipate some barriers to market penetration. Key among them is the reluctance of the general public to accept the innovation.
Advantages or differentiators
1. Street cameras only detect offenses at a specific geographical location but our technology is not limited by geographical location
2. Speed guns only check for over-speeding and require personnel to operate them, however, our technology automatically detects 4 other major traffic offenses and doesn't require a police officer.
3. The manual way of processing offenders is ineffective, our technology deploys AI and state-of-the-art systems to issue and process paperless tickets
Business model
Revenue will be generated from two main means 1. Sale of Devices to Enforcing Authority (Police service) 2. Services - Commission on Tickets/fines - Commission on road tolls - Service charge (DVLA & NIC) - Device installation fees - Licensing for use in other jurisdictions
