PlanetWatch aims at becoming the leader in crowdsourced environmental data. We engage residents to build a sensor network, reward data streams with blockchain tokens and monetize air quality data
Current Status
As of today, we connected 65’000 sensors worldwide including 10+ large cities with fastgrowing presence. Our 230M blockchain transactions since August 2020 processed 5B data streams.
2021 was a steller year for PlanetWatch, generating 19M€ of income with 78 K licenses sold.
The traction for 2022 is already strong as 50’000 additional licenses are already sold and large American and European Corporates have reached out to us.
Problem or Opportunity
Air pollution is a global economic and health challenge that generates 7 million premature deaths and costs $5,110 Billion in assistance, the equivalent to Japan’s GDP.
The problem is simply stated: air quality monitoring is broken. Outdoors, too few sensors are on the ground, preventing local pollution hotspots to be timely detected and mitigated. Indoors, most institutions and families do not monitor air quality at all, although significant risks exist especially for children, elderly and fragile people.
Solution (product or service)
PlanetWatch solution relies on building a network of sensors and people through 3 critical strategies:
1. Engage local residents to build a dense sensor network, both indoors and outdoors
2. Reward sensor data streams with blockchain tokens
3. Generate, analyze and monetize hyperlocal, real-time air quality data worldwide
Business model
Until now, we rely on 4 complementary streams of revenue:
- Connection licenses,
- Data licenses and
- Token rewards that are all recurrent flows.
Our business model will change in 2022, moving towards a 100% gross margin, frictionless revenue model where we get royalties from each PlanetWatch device sold by our manufacturing partners instead of selling these devices to our clients.
