Neutron Star Systems (NSS) is a space mobility company offering a suite of products for the next generation of spacecraft. By utilising High-Temperature Superconductor (HTS) technology, we enable new
Current Status
So far we have been able to close over 15 combined memoranda of understanding, letters of intent and technology endorsements from customers such as Bradford Space Technologies, Astroscale, Axiom Space, Redwire, ESA, etc. These commitments has the potential to convert into orders of approximately 80 Million EUR starting from Q3 2023. We are fundraising for seed funding of 5 Million EUR to start building our MVP from April 2022.
Problem or Opportunity
We are solving the problem of power upscaling in space. Spacecrafts have reached the upper limit of their power capabilities using conventional technologies, preventing the implementation of more capable spacecraft. This limit arises because conventional technologies for propulsion and power management become large, heavy, and inefficient at higher powers. In particular, current electric propulsion (EP) systems do not meet customer needs for high-power missions: they have narrow operating ranges, cannot be scaled to higher powers, and rely on expensive and rare fuels.
Solution (product or service)
Our product is SUPREME: An electric propulsion system based on the combination of Applied-Field Magnetoplasmadynamic (AF-MPD) thruster technology, enhanced with the use of high-temperature superconductors (HTS). SUPREME uses a combination of electric and magnetic fields to accelerate a plasma and generate thrust. SUPREME is more scalable, has a wider operating range, and uses cheaper propellants, than existing solutions, and is inherently suited for missions with a large delta-V which need throttleable operation.
Business model
NSS revenue streams come from the sales of superconductor-based electric propulsion systems and later other spacecraft systems. These customers include traditional spacecraft integrators such as OHB, Airbus, and Thales Alenia Space; space agencies such as ESA, NASA, and JAXA; and providers of end-to-end services such as Astroscale, Bradford Space, and OrbitFab. Primary revenues are generated from the sales of electric propulsion systems and our primary product. Secondary revenues come from the sales of other spacecraft subsystems using superconductors.
