Alfred is a cat product company that is mainly producing cat litter by upcycling coffee grounds to solve litter box odor problems that other cat litter couldn't solve perfectly.
Current Status
Alfred launched the product initially through crowdfunding in Korea, and successfully raised 1600% of funds. Then after some upgrades for the product, we start to get traction on Q4 in 2020. The revenue keeps increasing per quarter. Recently, we got seed funding from one of the top universities in Korea, around $168000. We are still doing continuous research to produce t best product for our customers. Currently, our products are available in Korean e-commerce and Amazon for the global market. We are expanding to the US market, as the cat litter market there is bigger than in Korea.
Problem or Opportunity
More than 11.5M tons of coffee grounds are thrown away every year. Along with this, numerous problems have been increasing recently in various ways. Cats, on the other hand, have some serious bad smells on their urine and feces. The common cat litter that is sold in the market called Bentonite Cat Litter, is not biodegradable and the collection of the raw material is by stripped mining. In addition, bentonite cat litter is also could not solve the litter box odor problem that most cat parents have.
Solution (product or service)
Alfred decided to add value to something that was supposed to be thrown away, by upcycling coffee grounds and make a better solution for cats and their parents, to increase the quality of companion life. Now, cat parents do not have to worry about smelly houses ever again. Not only cat parents could live conveniently in their homes, but also they could contribute to helping reducing pollution that could happen because of coffee grounds waste. Alfred's motto is to make a better solution for cats, for you, and for the planet.
Business model
We mainly buy decaffeinated coffee grounds from suppliers, process all the raw materials in our own factory, and sell them to online stores in Korea and the US market. We also plan to get a B2B partner in the US to help us distribute the product there. Soon, after the business got stable, we are planning to carry out our subscription service model both in Korea and the US.
