Digital transformation is experiencing an unprecedented acceleration caused by technological advancements and more recently due to Covid-19 implications. As of April 2020, 92% of the world’s student population (~1.6 billion) were out of school. In response, reactive, mixed and matched video conferencing solutions were adopted. This not only compromised the quality of teaching and learning but also highlighted key obstacles due to digital divide (e.g. half of the world population does not have access to good internet connection). A lack of social engagement has been noticed, and will lead to bigger issues when it comes to delivering teaching and learning experience.
There is a cry out for a centralised and accessible online platform that is pedagogy-informed, accessible, user-centred and customisable. The challenge of existing learning platforms (Learning Management System, Massive open online course, Open educational resources, etc.) is that they are offering piecemeal solutions that are not in-line with human cognition. “Zoom fatigue”, decreased student retention and users’ cognitive processing (e.g. self-complexity theory and limited attention resources). More importantly, learning is a social process and user engagements need to be re-informed through different means (communication, exploration, interaction to name a few) and existing platforms do not provide a holistics solution. Live Virtual Campus (by Tech Adaptika) offers an effective way to experience learning and teaching that is accessible and more importantly promotes social engagement with its avatars interactions concept.
Solution (product or service)
Our product: Live Virtual Campus, is a groundbreaking learning environment with capability to enhance social engagement and interactivity through interesting and customisable avatars. Live Virtual Campus Complete with a Learning Management System (LMS), facilitates to present and deliver course materials and support student/teacher communication and virtual interaction. Students and teachers can select an avatar to interact and live in this virtual world, they are in charge of their own learning experience. It is not an alternative to physical (and dated) way of learning, however, it is informed by user research, it ensures that it captures the benefits of a physical learning environment enhanced with technological advancements. Avatar-based interaction and engagement is very much aligned with the evolution of information society and celebrates the community of learners. Users of the platform use avatars to interact with one another, and move across our Live Virtual Campus, attend live sessions, have hands-on work simulation, engage in private confidential meetings with their educators and classmates. The virtual campus adapts educational and professional training to create a more immersive online solution. With their avatars, students engage in live interactions with other students and teachers. They become part of a lifelong community of learners and will continue interacting even after the course is over. Through customizations, our product enables remote work, online studies and virtual networking. Our virtual campus with its characteristics and avatars offers flexible solutions for corporations so their workers can keep having meaningful interactions and stay connected, no matter what is happening in the world! Organizations can host events, create offices, have conferences and collaborative meetings, all on our fully customizable platform; offering the best simulations possible.
The LiVE Virtual Campus design has been tested with over 3,000 users across Canada, USA, and France. Today it is in use by over 30 district school boards.

Advantages or differentiators
We are the only one that has a combination of LMS (learning management system) and virtual environment. It is not about the tech only but also about the design. Our competency is a result of the people we hire. They are instructional designers not just computer developers. Moreover, we are putting our platform on the web and thereby not require a downloading process. We will therefore be the only company in the world to do such.
