Stage of the project: Prototype or product is ready
8chili is a bay area based deeptech startup with a vision to reimagine surgeries using computer vision, mixed reality and artificial intelligence. Our first product is aimed at democratising access to high quality continuous surgical training that brings the power of experiential learning via 3D live video of the surgeons field of view. In a nutshell we enable the residents to transport into the eyes of the surgeon during a surgery.
Our endgame, however is to create a rich data lake of 3D videos of surgeries with high accuracy depth cloud that can train medical robots for autonomy.
Current Status
8chili is the one of the top 50 medtech startups in 2020 as a part of the Medtech Innovator Accelerator, one of the industry's largest and most prestigious not for profit org.
Our team has been successful in developing a prototype and we are getting ready to deploy at our pilot locations.
1. Brighams and Womans , Dr Jamie
2. Uni Michigan, Dr. Anthony Avellino
3. Rush Univerisity, Dr. Anuja Anthony
4. Cook County Trauma centre , Dr. Farhan Bukhari
Our pilots are expected to start post thanksgiving.
Problem or Opportunity
Globally just about 3% of the surgeons have access to high quality continuous training and a staggering 70% of the residents are not confident in performing proficient procedures ( Ref: Lancet and Annals of Surgery ). This gives raise to uneven distribution of surgeons globally and burdens the healthcare system with high costs and also denies access to quality care to circa 150 million patients every year ( ref: Lancet )
Solution (product or service)
We are developing a platform that will deliver experiential learning by allowing the resident / trainee to transport into the surgeons eyes during a procedure and allows them to practise simultaneously alongside the surgeon delivering a truly immersive and interactive learning experience in the real world.
Competitors
Existing products in the market only offer fully virtual training solution like precision os, fundamental vr and osso vr.
Advantages or differentiators
Surgery is a complex business and every surgeon trains very hard - they take utmost care in planning prior to every procedure however their experience comes into play when they encounter surprises during procedures. It is the experience that matters during such times to keep the patient safe and still execute the procedure to perfection and there is no system currently that addresses this key issues except the 8chili's NAVIX AIR platform.
Since we do not create 3D assets which are time consuming and practically cannot encompass all kinds of complications and specialties - we can work right off the bat for every surgical speciality with very minimal changes to their existing workflow.
