Problem or Opportunity

Much of Nigeria doesn’t have access to formal waste disposal systems resulting in a waste pandemic; much of the country’s waste, a huge 34 million tons a year, ends up mixed up in landfill, streets, landscapes, drainages and waterways where it produces huge amounts of methane and pollutes the surrounding area.

Nigeria also has an energy crisis, with the entire country of 216 million people barely generating 5000MW of electricity. Over 90 million households still lack access to adequate energy, and even those who are connected to the main grid experience frequent and costly outages.

Solution (product or service)

Our tailored recycling models are closing the knowledge ga and tackling the waste pandemic, by harvesting plastics, aluminium and other non-biodegradable/recyclable wastes direct from post consumers and offering them benefits ranging from cash to health insurance, vocational training and more. We are also tackling unemployment by formalising the role of waste pickers.

Our decentralised home biogas systems are not only tackling biodegradable wastes, but also leveraging the solution to tackle the energy crisis; giving people, especially underserved and cut off communities, access to energy.

Business model

Users signup electronically (through our web app) or manually (through our Waste Busters) as Pickers or Hubs.

We also have Green POS; where we train collectors on waste collection and separation, and give them umbrellas, tables, banners, jumbo bags and startup cash. They are strategically located and they collect recyclables from post consumers in exchange for instant cash. Pickers request for Pickup or take their recyclable materials to the nearest Hub or Recycle POS and receive Green Points or Instant cash. Hub Managers & POS Guards requests for pickups through the web app.
