Current Status
First raw material partnerships signed with strong pipeline. First commercial product launched to Foodservice in May 2022 and consumer eCom launched in Aug 2022. Industrial customers testing liquid application in NPD, first production tests and launch decisions made with Nordic Umami liquid application as ingredient.
Problem or Opportunity
Nordic Umami Company solves food system problems in two ways. Firstly, we accelerate plant-based eating by producing umami seasoning solutions that make plant foods delicious. Secondly, we help raw material partners in their green shift by creating closed loop value chains and returning side streams that would otherwise be lost from the food system back to human consumption.

The emission-reduction benefits of shifting to plant-based eating are well documented. Yet many people are still deterred by the taste of plant-based food. Or rather, its lack of taste. Plant-based food is often missing exactly what people crave the most: umami.
This is where we come in.
We have developed a natural way of using food technology to create plant-based umami from plant food side products. In this way we also tackle another aspect of the food system that we believe needs to be fixed: wasting edible food.
