Unibaio developed biodegradable micro-nanocapsules that improve the delivery of agrochemicals to reduce their application rates up to 80% in all toxic pesticides, herbicides and fertilizers.
Current Status
● 5 pilots in progress with potential clients in Argentina, chile and USA.
● 5 additional LOI from Argentina, Korea and Brazil.
● MVP with 6 patents applications.
● Agreement with two private companies to outsource the manufacture of the nanocomposite (Ghion Argentina, and Liva Chile). Negotiating with Batelle to do the same in US.
● Supported by: Alchemist Accelerator (USA, Batch 31. Supported by BASF).
● Winners of the Startup World Cup 2021 Argentina, among others.
Problem or Opportunity
In the last 70 years industrial agriculture has promoted the use of chemical pesticides that are damaging soil and accelerating climate change. Claudia came from a family of farmers and she experienced first hand all the toxicity problems of agrochemicals: on the food we eat, the workers, and the environment. As the biological formulas are not being able yet to replace all traditional chemicals (normally because they require high application doses) she started think with Vera on how to use nanotech to improve them and help Agrochemical companies to pass the new and more demanding regulations.
Solution (product or service)
We developed a nanoparticle that allows agrochemical companies to lower the application doses of chemicals already known by farmers without replacing the entire formula.
UNIBAIOs particles can be used by pesticides companies to modify their formulations to: 1) be approved by the strictest environmental regulations, 2) reduce manual operation, lowering farmers application costs, 3) improve yield & competitiveness. Our co-formulant can be used to reduce application doses in any kind of pesticide and fertilizers.
Business model
Since 2021 we pivoted from a B2C model to a B2B model. At UNIBAIO we have two main income models: 1) we adapt our ingredient to clients formula, and we supply the particles; 2) we adapt the formula and license the know-how to manufacture the particles.
The particles price and the license fee are defined in correlation with the value we add to the optimized formula.
