NUProtein has introduced a protein synthesis technology that is 3000x more cost effective, 24x smaller and 30x faster than current GMO solutions. We are targeting large scale protein production for food and media additive of alternative meat.
Current Status
For research market, we are providing the off-the-shelf product to the world largest bio science reagent distributor, Sigma-Aldrich, as OEM product. For development phase, we are providing several different growth factors to top tier food manufactures and media manufactures for clean meat and regenerative medicine.
Market
Our target markets are as follows: - Food: Alternative meat including plant based ($140B market) - Medical: Regenerative medicine and cultured meat ($4.6B market) - Research: Protein Synthesis Reagents ($1.8B market)
Problem or Opportunity
The Growth factor protein is one of keys to cultured meat and cell therapy, but is difficult to synthesize. As the result, production cost of growth factors are very expensive, as high as $300K per gram (which accounts for half of final production cost). Moreover, in alternative meat production, the use of chromoprotein to create the color and texture of meat forces producers to classify their products as GMO foods (an extreme negative for their target market).
Solution (product or service)
Our protein synthesis technology using wheat germ is cell‐free and involves a one‐day process, regardless of volume ‐ a 95% reduction in process time compared to competitive solutions. Our technology is also more space efficient, creating 1 gram of protein with 10 liters of solution (compared to 240 liters for competitive technologies). Moreover, NUProtein’s production cost is 300x less expensive that competitors’ growth factors. Finally, for food additive protein, we can produce any animal proteins without killing any animal or using GMO, contributing to sustainable consumption and production.
Competitors
Because of the nature of each segments, scale of competitors are varies. - Food: Large scale contracted manufacturers (like Samsung, Lonza) ‐ Slower Speed (6months) & order volume requirements are restrictive - Medical: Peprotech, R&D System ‐ More expensive for small volumes - Research: Genefrontiers, Cell Free Science ‐ Slower, more expensive, more space
Advantages or differentiators
Our protein synthesis technology using wheat germ is cell‐free and involves a one‐day process, regardless of volume ‐ a 95% reduction in process time compared to competitive solutions. Our technology is also more space efficient, creating 1 gram of protein with 10 liters of solution (compared to 240 liters for competitive technologies). Moreover, NUProtein’s production cost is 300x less expensive that competitors’ growth factors and 1/10 use is enough compared to other competitors growth factors. In all, Ours are 3000x cost effective. Finally, for food additive protein, we can produce any animal proteins without killing any animal or using GMO, contributing to sustainable consumption and production.
Finance
We are selling - cell-free protein synthesis reagent kit at avg price $300, 98% margin. - growth factors for R&D use, $3K/mg, 90% margin. -(are going to sell) wheat germ extract for mass production, $2K/L, 50% margin. We are expecting $102M combined sales in 2025
Business model
We are seeing three market segments, Research, Medical and Food. Our Go‐to‐Market strategies for each segment are as follows: - Research: Providing a protein synthesis reagent kit is off‐the‐shelf . - Medical: Providing the finished Growth Factor Protein in Japan, and expanding outside of Japan. Setting up lab outside of Japan and produce protein under cGMP to bio ventures and cultured meat makers. - Food:Since the market is cost sensitive, we are going to provide wheat germ extract as the protein synthesis material so that customer can synthesized growth factors and/or chromo protein in their site and to reduce the material cost by their buying power for mass production.
Money will be spent on
Out of $3.5M, 0.5 M will be used for R&D in Japan for the next two years. $3M to cover 18 month running US lab and - Recruit CEO and one scientist in US and two technicians at the begining - Setup lab in west coast where wheat milling facility and bio customers close together.
