Our current recycling system is broken. Less than 50% of what we put into our recycling bins is actually recycled. It’s time to take things into our own hands.
Lasso's revolutionary recycling technology for households and businesses gives you the power to recycle more effectively from the corner of your kitchen. The Lasso system washes, grinds, compacts and stores your recycling in clean, pure streams of materials.
We collect your materials and sell them to manufacturers to become something new. Users are remunerated for the materials they recycle - giving back to you and the planet.
Current Status
Our product is currently in prototype development phase.
Market
We will initially target an environmentally-sympathetic, highly educated demographic with a median household income over $100,000 in the US market.
California, New York, Michigan or Maine (where bottle deposit systems currently operate) have been earmarked as likely early adopters.
The first of four rollouts targets 423,000 affluent households (income over $100,000 p/a) in strategically chosen counties of the San Francisco Bay Area.
In total, the ten year target is 4,000,000 affluent households across the four US states listed above.
Problem or Opportunity
Currently less than 50% of our recycling is recycled. Less than 2% of plastic is closed-loop recycled according to the Ellen MacArthur Foundation. USD 80-120 billion worth of plastic packaging value is lost to the economy annually.
Solution (product or service)
Lasso uses sensor technology to analyse packaging and containers as they enter the system in order to keep recycling streams pure. The appliance washes, granulates and separately stores the resultant materials for collection and - ultimately - sale to the secondary market. Owners are reimbursed for the value of their recycled materials, as well as any bottle deposit returns they are eligible for if such systems operate in their region.
Competitors
We have no direct competitors or similar closed-loop recycling technologies. The closest competitors are existing recycling systems and other new technologies such as chemical recycling.
Advantages or differentiators
To our knowledge we are the only company offering a closed-loop recycling product or service in the home.
Finance
This is a multi-sided business model with core revenues coming from royalties from sales of the Lasso appliance (B2C), and the sales of closed-loop recycled materials (B2B).
Other revenue streams include public bottle deposit refunds, Extended Producer Responsibility (EPR) delivery fees. Licencing the technology for public and private sector use, and monetising recycled material pick-ups
are future considerations.
