Facial masks worn to protect against particulates, air pollution, bacteria, viruses, volatile organic compounds commonly found in the home, gases, and many other environmental toxins, become ineffective and dangerous to continue using after the recommended usage time. The effectiveness of the filter decreases over time based on external environmental factors and personal usage, specifically how many breaths a user has taken while wearing a mask.
Current Status
We have already developed and sold a similar smart mask filter and respiration monitoring system to an existing protective mask company. The newest iteration utilizes GRAPHENE, BATTERY-LESS, PRINTABLE sensors at a 100x cost reduction. CirQ, in partnership with the Sri Lanka Institute of Nanotechnology, have a working prototype and are near manufacturing.
Market
The protective face mask market is expected to exceed $21.2 billion dollars by 2026. CirQ HaLe has the opportunity to vastly improve, at a fractional cost to manufacturers, the effectiveness of protective equipment, and through mandated compliance, increase the frequency of usage/purchase by adhering to recommended safety guidelines.
Problem or Opportunity
Workers and professionals in a variety of
industries and lines of work are constantly being
exposed to dangerous chemicals, gases,
pollutants, bacteria and viruses. Workers on the
front lines run the risk of becoming ill in the
short term, or have slowly progressing medical
issues, like lung cancer, arise later in life. In order
to protect workers, their protective equipment
needs to be functioning properly and effectively.
For large companies that retain a large and/or specialized
labor force, keeping workers healthy and productive is of
the utmost importance. Insurance, workers’ compensation,
and medical leave can be detrimental to a company’s
operations. By being able to track employee’s adherence
to company policies regarding worker safety, companies
can reduce costs and increase productivity and efficiency.
Solution (product or service)
A flexible, printable, battery-less smart sensor to track protective mask filter usage via users' respiration. The graphene based sensor can be added to the inside of any standard mask, and data uses RFID/NFC to pair with mobile device. Large corporations, insurance companies, healthcare providers and the general public will be able to see visualized data of their breathing rate, and know when is the proper time to replace their protective mask for a new, effective one.
Competitors
other electronic smart-masks that monitor user respiration and filter usage. Atmoblue is an example of such and retails for over $150 (it is not very effective for virus protection)
Advantages or differentiators
easily scale-able, printable, battery-less, ultra-low cost, graphene based (thin and flexible), easy to implement into existing manufacturing lines
Finance
3M ALONE is ramping up to produce more than 1 Billion N95 masks by the end of 2020, not to mention the massive production of a variety of surgical masks, pollution masks, and other filtration masks made by other companies. Ultra-low cost CirQ HaLe sensors are expected to wholesale for less than $.05 per sensor.
Business model
B2B. Manufacturing/distribution partnership, license, or sell technology outright to existing mask manufacturers.
Money will be spent on
accompanying software / advanced machine learning and AI, manufacturing, testing, compliance, IP establishment/defense, business development, legal
