Electronic Recycling Through Heroes is a digital platform that pays households & businesses to recycle their unwanted electronics including a free pickup service.
Traction and Current Status
We have won the top e-waste collection center award in Malaysia 2021. We have diverted more than 500,000 kgs of e-waste from landfills and served more than 3,000 customers including DHL, Volvo, United Nations, Hong Leong Bank and many others.
Problem or Opportunity
E-waste is the fastest growing waste stream. There is a lack of collection infrastructure in most countries which results in the e-waste recycling rate being stagnant for years. Most households and businesses would be interested to recycle if there was a reliable infrastructure enabling them to do so.
Solution
We offer an uberized collection network of freelancers (Heroes) who pickup unwanted electronics from the customer address on-demand. We also pay a cash reward to the customer as well as a service fee to the Hero. The collected items are then sorted into Grade A (reusable), Grade B (repairable) and Grade C (recyclable) and monetized accordingly.
Business Model, Chanells, Metrics
We generate revenue by selling Grade A devices through ecommerce, selling Grade B spare parts to B2B vendors, and Grade C items to licensed recovery facilities. Through this model we are able to achieve a 50% profitable EBITDA margin.
